Field Education is the signature pedagogy of the Social Work curriculum. It is the context of the field practice that students hone their skills in various practice contexts. LBC social work students and the Social Work Program partner with community organizations which espouse the core values of the social work profession. Internship locations provide opportunities to practice the Planned Change Process from beginning to end: Engage, Assess, Plan, Implement/Intervene, Terminate, Evaluate and Follow-Up. The students are able to apply generalist social work practice knowledge, values and skills in a community-based setting. Students enter into their Field Experience prepared to integrate their knowledge and beginning skills with experiences with individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities. A comprehensive Field Seminar class will complement the learning that occurs under the supervision of a practitioner in the social work field.
Students must obtain a minimum of 210 hours of field experience per semester. Students will be required to maintain logs of their hours and experiences in conjunction with the Field Seminar class. The Field Instructor will complete a mid-term and Final Evaluation of the student’s accomplishments during the student’s placement in the professional setting.
