The Trust Performing Arts Center will welcome Soul Sanctuary for an inspiring afternoon performance on Oct. 29.
Set for 3 p.m. at The Trust’s Great Hall, 37 N. Market St. in downtown Lancaster, Soul Sanctuary’s repertoire will include original arrangements by Thompson Corley of “His Eye Is on the Sparrow,” “Wade in the Water” and others. Soul Sanctuary consists of performers soprano Maria Clark, pianist Maria Thompson Corley and guest cellist Sara Male.

For Soul Sanctuary’s 2022 album of spirituals, Clark and Thompson Corley navigated the intense emotion, scars of suffering and religious passion in the hymns and gospels. Featuring empowering selections from the past two centuries, the duo brings to life religious songs that have stood the test of time and find deep relevance today.
The Soul Sanctuary album, which hit No. 27 on Amazon’s “Best Seller for New Classical Music List,” has been hailed as “gorgeous,” “intensely emotional” and “an uplifting outlook in these times of adversity.”
Clark is an acclaimed soprano and a senior lecturer of vocal studies at Spelman College and Emory University. She has been acclaimed for her virtuosic and expressive singing in opera, oratorio and art song, and has performed with opera companies and symphony orchestras around the world.
Jamaican-born and Canadian-raised Thompson Corley’s music has been commissioned, performed, recorded and/or taught by numerous musicians in the United States and abroad. Her work has been featured in films and on television soundtracks, as well as on radio and digital platforms, nationally and internationally. She currently resides in Lancaster.

The Trust Performing Arts Center is an architecturally stunning venue for music, theatre, dance, lectures and community events in the heart of Lancaster’s downtown arts district. In 1912, the Lancaster Trust Company completed construction on its new headquarters—a Beaux-Arts masterpiece from the imagination of Lancaster’s leading architect, C. Emlen Urban. A century later, Mr. Urban’s architectural treasure has been re-imagined by Lancaster Bible College as The Trust Performing Arts Center. The Trust has a mission to honor God by encouraging excellence in the work of student and professional artists and by enriching the community through inspiring, challenging and redemptive experiences.
