One of the benefits of attending Lancaster Bible College | Capital Seminary & Graduate School is the close-knit community that feels like a family. But for some students, receiving their education at LBC | Capital is actually a family affair!
The Lancaster campus has been home to many pairs of siblings throughout the years, and in honor of National Siblings Day on April 10, 2023, we caught up with a few sibling duos to see what their experience has been like.
LBC sibling duo the Carpenters
Andrew (’25) and Bethany (’26) Carpenter have been able to strengthen not only their relationship but also their walks with the Lord while attending LBC together. “Attending LBC with my brother has not only encouraged us both in our walks with the Lord, but we have also grown closer in our relationship with each other,” Bethany said. She is currently wrapping up her freshman year as a Middle Level Education major.
Andrew, a sophomore Worship Arts major, said, “I think through having my sister on campus we are able to see how each other, through the refining principles of college, is maturing together in our faith and knowledge.”
LBC sibling duo the Boyers
For Garrett (’26) and Emma (Devlin ’23) Boyer, sharing their college experience for a year has been a great way to still experience the familiarity of home while being away. Emma, who graduates this spring with her degree in Intercultural Studies/TESOL, said, “Personally, I enjoy having my little brother here with me. It’s nice to experience college together, even if only for a year. With our family living a few hours away, it’s nice to me to have my brother down here and to come visit me at my apartment every so often, too!”
The same goes for Garrett, a freshman Criminal Justice major, who said, “It’s been really cool to have my sister on campus during my first year here. It’s been nice to annoy her by running up to her yelling her name when I see her around campus and it’s been a nice taste of home and companionship to see her around. With her living fairly close, it’s also been nice to crash at her apartment and annoy her and her husband with spontaneous visits some nights!”
LBC sibling duo the Gerbers
For other siblings, athletics have played a big role in their time at LBC. Hunter (’21 & ’23) and Austin (’23) Gerber both studied Sport Management, with Hunter preparing to graduate with his master’s degree in Youth Ministry this spring. Hunter said, “It’s been an incredible experience to go to school with my brother for another four years, to now work alongside him, and to see how much we’ve both grown over the years.”
Austin agreed, saying, “It is a great experience being able to see my brother every day. He has been a great role model for me while I have been at school the past three years.”
LBC sibling duo the Kings
The King sisters have not only shared a campus at LBC, but they’ve also shared the court and field, playing as teammates on both the women’s volleyball and softball teams. Chloe (’23), a Healthcare Management major, said, “I have had the unique opportunity to attend college with not one of my siblings, but two. I experienced what it is like to be the little sister at college and what it is like to be the big sister at college. I have loved the time shared at college with Sheyenne, being the big sister, because it has allowed us to grow in our friendship. I love having her here because she is a safe person for me who I know I can always trust and count on and there’s comfort in that.”
Sheyenne (’25), majoring in Business Administration, said, “It’s nice to have a sister on campus when I am coming to a place full of changes and uncertainty and there is that one person who is a steady constant in my life. It’s a fun experience being able to go to school with a best friend and knowing someone’s always on your side and there for you.”
