LBC | Capital student Connor Doyle (’22), a psychology major graduating this December, won the Christian Association for Psychological Studies (CAPS) Conference’s student poster presentation contest. The topic of his submission was “Perceptions of Intimate Relationships: A Comparative Study of Secular and Christian College’s Students,” and for his efforts, Connor won a cash prize. The Lancaster Bible College | Capital Seminary & Graduate School Counseling & Social Work Department hosted the 2022 East Regional Christian Association for Psychological Studies (CAPS) Conference on Nov. 4-5.
Set for The Trust Performing Arts Center in downtown Lancaster, Pa., the CAPS Conference has a rich tradition of clinical and academic sessions that integrate faith and practice. Each year at the two-day event, counselors, clinicians, psychologists, clergy, behavioral mental health professionals, academics and students have opportunities to gather and share research, while encouraging faith and practice integration across multidisciplinary fields.
Dr. Roy Barsness
With the theme of “Windows to Transformation: The Sacred Work of the Embodied Therapist,” the conference welcomed keynote speaker Dr. Roy Barsness, formerly of the Seattle School of Theology and Psychology and author of “Core Competencies in Relational Psychoanalysis: A Guide to Practice, Study and Research.” Barsness’ affirming, insightful and accessible style provided valuable takeaways for practitioners from many different psychotherapy and counseling orientations.
