LBC Welcomes Class of 2023 to Athletics Hall of Honor

by Zach Freeman

During Homecoming Weekend on Sept. 30, Lancaster Bible College recognized the Athletics Hall of Honor’s Class of 2023, consisting of Whitney (Heise ‘13) Whaley, David Green (‘15) and Kevin Keltner (‘11).

Whaley was a two-sport star for LBC from 2009-13, as she helped the women’s soccer team to its best two seasons in program history, with the Chargers going to the NCAA Division III National Tournament in 2011 and 2012. She still holds the program record for goals in a career with 59 and is third in program history with 24 assists. Her 142 points are the second-most in program history, just two behind 2022 Hall of Honor honoree, Monica (Horning ‘15) Lambertson. Thirteen of Whaley’s 59 career goals were game-winners, including her two-goal performance in the 2012 North Eastern Athletic Conference Final that gave the Chargers their first and, thus far, only NEAC crown in women’s soccer.

In the spring, Whaley turned her attention to the lacrosse field and is still the program leader in career goals with 239. She scored 29 or more goals in each of her four seasons, including a career-best 81 in 2012, and her 270 points are the most in program history.

Green was one of the best men’s basketball players in program history, starring for the Chargers from 1986-88 and officially graduating in 2015. Third in program history with 1,785 points, Green averaged a program-best 35.7 points per game during his two seasons.

He is also the program leader in rebounds with 1,130, pulling down this record in just 50 games. Speaking of 50, Green is the only player in program history to score 50 points in a game, which he did three times in his LBC career. His 56 points against Washington Bible College in 1987 is a program record, and Green also netted an impressive 1,034 points during the 1987-88 season. Green also owns the top 10 highest-scoring games in program history, as well as the top nine highest-rebounding games. In his 50 career collegiate contests, he scored 40 or more points 18 times.

Like Whaley, Keltner was a two-sport star for the Chargers during his four seasons at LBC. He anchored the defense for the men’s soccer program and provided the same leadership and athleticism for men’s basketball in 2007-11. Keltner was a member of the 2009 NCCAA East Region Championship soccer team and was not only a key factor in the Chargers’ strong defense but also added five goals on the offensive end.

On the court, Keltner was just as good, as he helped the Chargers to the 2011 NCCAA East Region Championship in his senior season. In 2010 and 2011, he earned NCCAA Division II Men’s Basketball All-American honors and was named to the NCCAA East Region First Team in both seasons.

Keltner is the program’s all-time leader in assists with 475 and is tied for sixth in program history with 151 steals. He is one of 25 players to score 1,000 points, also pulling down 421 career rebounds.

The 2023 honorees join the inaugural Class of 2022: Aubrey (Folger ‘16) Bird, Lauren (Heliger ‘13) Turner, Sam Rempel (‘01), Pete Beers and Lambertson.

Congratulations to these standout Chargers in the Class of 2023!
