Melissa Turka was raised in Lancaster County and has been dancing since the age of 3. Melissa wanted to further her dance education and attended DeSales University where she received her BA in Dance with a double minor in business and psychology. During her time at DeSales University, she performed works by notable choreographers: Antony Tudor, Trinette Singleton, Jessica Chen, Jeff Shade, and Jamey Hampton. After graduating, Melissa moved back to Lancaster and began her professional career as a freelance artist. Professionally, she has performed in New York City, Philadelphia, Lancaster and the Lehigh Valley for choreographers Emily Kline, Julia Mayo, Tara Madsen Robbins, Melissa Chisena, and more. In 2017, she joined Opus 1 Contemporary Dance Company, under the direction of Lina McMenamin & Tim Early, and performed with them for their 2017 and 2018 seasons. In 2018, Melissa became the co-founder and assistant artistic director of emme dance collective, a nonprofit dance company in Lancaster, PA. Melissa continues to direct, dance, and choreograph for emme dance collective, while also teaching at Encore Dance Center. Most recently, Melissa, began dancing for another local dance company, Luna, she is entering her second season with Luna Dance Company. She is thrilled to start teaching dance courses at Lancaster Bible College and loves any opportunity to teach young and eager minds.
